Airspace

Are you a visiting pilot who would like to fly within Tromsø CTR?

Tromsø CTR is the blue box on the map.

We ask you to fly with a local pilot or at least have a conversation with a local pilot to make sure we all use the airspaces correctly since this is an arrangement between the authorities and the THPK club.

We ask you to not contact the Tromsø tower without contacting the club first.

Flying within Tromsø CTR

Flying within Tromsø CTR (blue area on the map) is only possible within specific areas (orange areas on the map) after obtaining permission from the control tower.

How to open a box

  • Are you a visiting pilot? Please read the above first.
  • Before you fly within Tromsø CTR, make sure your box is open.
  • To get the telephone number to the tower, please first join the Signal group "THPK flyboks" and ask there.
  • Before calling the tower and opening a box, make sure nobody else has opened it already otherwise it makes the club look uncoordinated. Please check the Signal group "THPK flyboks".
  • Once you open a box, post it on the Signal group "THPK flyboks" so that others know. Post which box, which altitude limit, until what time, and your contact.
  • Have your radio on set to 154.175 so that you can inform others about changes.
  • If you plan to close the box earlier, make sure nobody is in the air or about to launch and send other pilots 10-15 minutes warning. This is particularly important for the Fløya box where you cannot see all launches from the landing areas.
